Inspiration

Insurance distribution across many African markets is still highly fragmented and operationally manual. Many insurance agencies, brokerages, and agents still rely heavily on:

  • Spreadsheets,
  • WhatsApp chats,
  • Disconnected CRMs,
  • Manual follow-ups, and paper-based workflows.

At the same time, Africa is rapidly becoming:

  • Mobile-first,
  • AI-curious,
  • Fintech-driven, and digitally connected.

We realized that most global CRM systems are not designed for emerging-market insurance workflows. They are often:

  • too complex,
  • desktop-first,
  • not localized,
  • not AI-native, and not built around relationship-driven sales environments.

We wanted to build something fundamentally different: “An AI Growth Operating System for Insurance Teams.”

Instead of building another static CRM, we designed Suraksha OS Africa as:

  • a workflow engine,
  • an AI assistant,
  • a renewal intelligence system,
  • a communication platform, and a mobile-first operational layer.

The platform was designed specifically for emerging-market insurance teams operating across Africa.

What it does

Suraksha OS Africa combines CRM workflows with AI-powered operational intelligence. The platform includes:

  • AI Renewal Risk Engine Predicts policy non-renewal probability and recommends renewal rescue actions.
  • Next Best Action Engine Acts as an AI sales copilot by generating intelligent daily action recommendations ranked by revenue impact.
  • Client Health Score Scores client relationships using engagement, retention probability, and upsell indicators.
  • Voice Note CRM Allows agents to record voice notes which are auto-transcribed and attached to CRM records
  • AI WhatsApp Generator Generates personalized WhatsApp messages in multiple languages and tones for renewals, follow-ups, and customer engagement.
  • Smart Policy Bundling Uses AI to identify cross-sell and bundle opportunities for households and SMEs.
  • Referral Intelligence Engine Tracks referral performance, conversion quality, and ambassador impact.
  • Geo Intelligence Dashboard Visualizes client density, renewal hotspots, and territory performance across African markets.
  • AI Agent Coach Provides personalized coaching, productivity analysis, and pipeline optimization guidance for insurance agents.
  • Smart Automation Engine Allows users to build no-code automation workflows for reminders, follow-ups, and customer engagement. The platform also supports:
  • multi-language workflows,
  • multi-currency support,
  • mobile-first UX,
  • country-first architecture, and WhatsApp-centric communication.

How we built it

This project was heavily AI-assisted and “vibe coded” during the hackathon.

We combined:

  • product-first thinking,
  • rapid prototyping,
  • AI-assisted workflow design,
  • SaaS architecture planning, and mobile-first UX principles.

Instead of building only a visual demo, we focused on creating realistic operational workflows and scalable product logic. We designed:

  • multi-tenant SaaS architecture,
  • role-based access systems,
  • AI workflow modules,
  • renewal intelligence logic,
  • country-aware infrastructure,
  • multi-language switching,
  • multi-currency conversion systems, and mobile-first insurance operations.

We intentionally avoided traditional enterprise CRM complexity and instead focused on:

  • calm interfaces,
  • intelligent workflows,
  • large touch-friendly interactions, and AI-driven operational simplicity.

Challenges we ran into

1) Designing for Emerging Markets Insurance operations differ heavily across countries. We needed to design a flexible architecture capable of adapting across:

  • currencies,
  • insurers,
  • languages,
  • workflows, and operational behaviors.

2) Building AI Workflows That Feel Useful Instead of generic AI assistants, we focused on practical operational intelligence such as:

  • renewal rescue,
  • next best actions,
  • upsell scoring,
  • referral intelligence, and agent coaching. The challenge was making AI actionable rather than gimmicky.

3) Mobile-First SaaS Design Many users in emerging markets operate primarily through mobile devices. This required:

  • thumb-friendly UX,
  • lightweight interactions,
  • responsive dashboards, and WhatsApp-native workflows.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built an AI-native Insurance Growth OS instead of a traditional CRM.
  • Designed 10+ AI-powered modules for renewals, client intelligence, automation, coaching, and growth workflows.
  • Created a mobile-first, WhatsApp-centric platform tailored for emerging markets.
  • Built multi-language and multi-currency support for African markets.
  • Developed AI-powered renewal risk scoring and next-best-action recommendations.
  • Created a Voice Note CRM with auto-transcription workflows.
  • Built intelligent policy bundling and referral intelligence systems.

What we learned

This project reinforced several important ideas:

  • AI Is Best When Operational AI becomes truly valuable when embedded into daily workflows rather than existing as a separate chatbot layer.
    • Emerging Markets Need Vertical SaaS Many emerging-market industries are still underserved by modern software infrastructure.
    • Localized, workflow-aware SaaS platforms can unlock huge productivity gains.
    • Mobile-First Design Changes Everything Designing for mobile-first workflows forces simplicity and clarity.
    • Workflow Intelligence Is a Competitive Advantage The future of SaaS is not just storing data - it is actively helping users decide what to do next.

What's next for Suraksha OS Africa

  • Launching real-world pilots with insurance agencies across African markets
  • Integrating WhatsApp Business APIs and AI automation workflows
  • Expanding multi-language and multi-country support
  • Building AI-powered renewal prediction and agent coaching further -Developing mobile apps and offline-first capabilities
