Inspiration

SupportMyLocals helps local entrepreneurs (the Locals) to survive during and after the Corona crisis.

What it does

Locals create offers (e.g. vouchers, products, services) on our platform and sell them. Additionally, donations can be received. The platform works cross-sector, is legally compliant and very secure. Vouchers are digital, i.e. they can be redeemed digitally and are very well protected against fraud.

How I built it

We started on 19 March 2020 with a team distributed throughout Germany and went live on 27 March 2020. The whole team has worked for the project on a voluntary basis so far.

Challenges I ran into

3 top challenges within one week:

  1. to get a team of more than 10 people up and running in a fully functional way and bring it to a high level of productivity
  2. Design, develop and test simple, safe and ergonomic online functionality.
  3. professionally build up social media marketing and PR

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

  1. stable Go-Live within one week
  2. each day a release, since Go-Live on seven days a week

What I learned

We have learned that with a passionate team of experts it is possible to design, build and launch a marketplace including professional payment processing within one week. The key to this is experience, quick decisions and a very concentrated team in which a high degree of trust prevails over the work performance of the others.

What's next for SupportMyLocals

At the EU-Hackaton we have extended the platform by the function of a donation marathon for content. Here, so-called content heroes can create mixed playlists from different sources such as YouTube, Facebook, Vimeo, Instagram etc. On these playlists money can be donated to a donation pot. This donation pot is distributed every two weeks to all locals registered on our platform. We want to go live with it within one week. In the next step we will internationalize the platform. Da project is designed to provide additional services for local businesses, content heros and customers after the crisis.
