Inspiration

The inspiration behind our project is the desire to support and uplift local communities. We wanted to create a platform that brings together individuals, artisans, and organizations to promote local donations, art, and events. We believe that supporting local communities can have a significant impact on their growth and prosperity.

What it does

  1. Our project enables the user to organize and manage local events through our location based event management system. The users can create events , and search for events happening in their locality based on our location based event filter.
  2. Users can organize fundraisers/charities and contribute whatever amount they wish to. This is extremely useful when communities want to organize local cultural events or if a member needs aid and support.
  3. Lastly, our application provides a marketplace for selling local art online to other users. Users can submit images of their artwork and those shall be displayed on our marketplace for others to browse.

How we built it

  1. We built the frontend using ReactJS, a popular JavaScript library for building user interfaces. We utilized various React components, such as navigation, donation cards, event listings, and filters, to create a seamless user experience. We integrated external libraries and APIs for features like social media sharing and routing. We also used tailwindCSS for styling our application.
  2. The backend of the website is powered by Appwrite, a backend as a service which handles database management, file storage.
  3. We integrated third party APIs such as Stripe API for payments and location based APIs.

Challenges we ran into

During the development process, we faced several challenges. Integrating the external APIs and libraries required thorough understanding and troubleshooting to ensure smooth integration and functionality. It was our first time working with appwrite , hence designing a system which made good use of databases and file storage effectively was also a challenge.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of creating a user-friendly and visually appealing website that effectively connects individuals, artisans, and organizations within local communities. The seamless navigation, intuitive donation creation process, and comprehensive event listings are some of the accomplishments we take pride in. We also successfully integrated social media sharing features, allowing users to easily share donation posts and events with their networks.

What we learned

Throughout the development of this project, we gained valuable experience in working with ReactJS and utilizing its ecosystem of libraries and components. We also learned about integrating external APIs and managing data with Appwrite. We also learnt how to manage payments using Stripe. Collaboration and effective communication within the team were important skills we developed. Additionally, we learned about the significance of supporting local communities and the positive impact it can have on individuals and the overall community.

What's next for Support Local Communities

We are planning on creating Non-Fungible-Tokens (NFTs) for the artwork which users post on the marketplace. Storing their data on chain would make that asset more valuable. We also plan to expand the features and reach of the Support Local Communities website. We aim to incorporate a rating and review system for donations, events, and artisans to provide feedback and enhance credibility. Additionally, we plan to introduce a messaging system to facilitate communication between donors and donation creators. Furthermore, we will explore partnerships with local organizations and businesses to expand the scope and impact of our platform. Our goal is to continue evolving and providing valuable support to local communities.
