Inspiration
Watching brilliant dyslexic students struggle with traditional learning tools that weren't built for their unique minds. We realized AI could create truly inclusive education - a learning companion that adapts to different thinking patterns rather than forcing conformity.
What it does
SuperRecall is an AI-powered learning companion for dyslexic students that: -Stores study materials as visual "memory bubbles" organized by subject -Provides adaptive AI explanations that adjust to each student's comprehension level -Handles smart follow-up questions ("What is CH4?" gets contextual chemistry explanations) -Renders beautiful mathematical formulas with LaTeX -Generates topic-specific flashcards automatically -Includes voice controls for accessibility
How we built it
Tech Stack: Next.js 14 + TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, OpenAI GPT-4o-mini, KaTeX for math rendering, Supermemory.ai for cloud storage
Challenges we ran into
AI Quality Control: Built feedback loops so AI learns from user reactions ("too hard", "got it", "more detail") Math Formula Rendering: Integrated KaTeX with custom pattern detection for beautiful equations Contextual Understanding: Created smart query processing that generates relevant follow-up responses Conservative Responses: Implemented content validation to prevent irrelevant AI hallucinations
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Genuine Adaptive Learning: AI that actually learns and personalizes to each student Accessibility-First Design: Interface specifically optimized for dyslexic learning patterns Smart Contextual AI: Handles chemistry follow-ups, math summaries, and definition requests intelligently Beautiful STEM Support: LaTeX rendering makes math and science more approachable Robust Architecture: Works reliably even when AI services are unavailable
What we learned
Dyslexic students need different approaches, not "dumbed down" content AI must be contextual and conservative to be truly helpful Visual organization and clear hierarchy enhance comprehension significantly User feedback loops are essential for adaptive educational systems Accessibility considerations drive innovation for everyone
What's next for SuperRecall
Interactive knowledge graph showing memory connections Enhanced personalization with learning style adaptation Mobile app with offline mode and camera integration Research partnerships for efficacy studies Support for additional learning differences (ADHD, autism)
Goal
Become the gold standard for accessible educational AI, helping dyslexic students improve their academic confidence while pioneering inclusive learning technology.
