💡Inspiration

Did you know that 37% of young people between the ages of 12 and 17 have been bullied online. 30% have had it happen more than once? An estimated 9.1% of adolescents had social anxiety disorder, and an estimated 1.3% had severe impairment. A new even study shows that more than half of teenage girls and one-third of teenage boys used unhealthy eating habits like fasting, skipping meals, or smoking more cigarettes to control their weight, and many continued these habits through young adulthood. These are the challenges that plague the modern society at large. Hence, we decided to do something about it! Bringing you SuperHuman Academy. An online educational forum which educates people from all age groups upon the subjects of cyberbullying, social skills and good habits. We have kept the platform completely FREE for everyone to use and we aim to keep it the same forever!

💻What SuperHuman Academy Does

SuperHuman Academy provides absolutely free courses to anyone who is interested in learning how to defend themselves against cyberbullying, improving social skills or improve their everyday lives through strong and healthy habits. It also provides a safe space in the form of a Discord Community, for all age groups to hang out, discuss or seek help and guidance regarding the forementioned issues.

🛞How we built it

  1. The Front-End of the application has been built using Wix-Website Builder
  2. The Back-End and Database of the application has been built using Velo, a JavaScript framework available within Wix

😅Challenges we ran into

Being first timers at developing website, the team ran into the following challenges -

  1. Setting up the database using Velo. As we had no prior experience in using Wix.
  2. Working with Velo. As we are yet to learn deeply about JavaScript and frameworks. However, thanks to the tutorials and courses provided by Wix on their YouTube channel, we were able to navigate through our problems and reach satisfactory solutions.

🏆Accomplishments that we're proud of

We were able to create a beautiful UI for our website and we are extremely glad. Being first time hackers, we are happy about the fact that we were able to complete to project without having any major setbacks in the workflow. Finally, being able to work with Velo despite having no prior experience with it or JavaScript is something that we are quite proud of!

📑What we learned

  1. We learned the basics of JavaScript
  2. We got acquainted with using Wix and Velo and
  3. We learned about good UI-design principles and practices.

⏭️What's next for SuperHuman Academy

Owing to the constraints of the time, and our lack of experience in JavaScript; we could not bring forth a gamifying experience to the courses. This is something we would definitely like to implement in the future! We would like to add in Achievements and User-XP so that children from age groups 12-17 can have fun with it! Additionally, we do plan on releasing courses covering a variety of other struggles faced by children. Somethings we are currently working on are developing the courses - "The SoberHumans - No More Alcohol or Substance Abuse" and "Superhuman Mentality - Combating Depression & Peer Pressure"
