Inspiration
Chris's parents work as hospice care nurses, which gives him strong insight into the hospice care industry. He's heard about their experiences, including their struggles. And one day, he asked them what they wanted to see improved. This was their answer: they wanted a streamlined way of keeping records and communicating with patients and other practitioners.
What it does
It is a single source of truth—an immutable ledger with HIPAA-compliant data security and record-keeping. It follows the principle of the minimum necessary standard where users are restricted by row-level security (RLS) to only able to access the data they need. And it implements HIPAA audit logging, recording all accesses and mutations by user identity and time.
How we built it
We started off with extensive whiteboard planning to validate data structures and schemas. We also determined the necessary modules for a minimum viable product (MVP). We then used Claude Code to draft markdown documents that outlined key points and iterated until we were satisfied. We then instructed the agent to implement the specifications.
Challenges we ran into
As a hackathon team that met each other the same day, teamwork was a rough start, but we found our structure and footing. We ran into some race conditions and database migration challenges, but all were resolved.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're proud that we implemented a complete minimum viable product with all ai augmented clinical note tracking features within a data secure system.
What we learned
We learned how to approach production-grade software systems with professional practices, and learned how to use the tools of the future and realized we are barely scratching their true power and potential.
What's next for Sunset
We intend to continue this project, collaborating with industry professionals in the healthcare and business space, presenting to campus startup incubators and eventually industry investors.
