Inspiration
We got our idea from classic arcade games (like PacMan). Essentially, the idea of creating a familiar childhood game sparked in our minds as a great way to educate others on sustainable goal 12: Sustainable Production and Consumption.
What it does
The game of Sunrise Harvest teaches players the importance of conserving the resources they take up, and how proper sustainable consumption is beneficial to life. The player has to collect carrots to increase score and feed themselves, while avoiding common farming obstacles such as disasters and outside interferences.
How we built it
Through the use of Code.org, we used coding blocks to present an interactive 2-dimensional simulation where players can control an object.
Challenges we ran into
-This was our first hackathon, and we are beginners: Despite the struggles, we were able to make the best out of our equipment, and although our project wasn't the best, it was a great learning experience.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of getting so far in the process of making the idea into reality. One thing I would've done before was study and experience using coding a bit more before attending this hackathon.
What we learned
We all learned a bit about ourselves: that coding is not the thing for us. However, we actually had a pretty nice weekend here with OCSEF hacks, and made a few new memories along the struggles of tria and error.
What's next for Sunrise Harvest
If we were to continue hacking at Sunrise Harvest, we would probably try to aim for the game to release in app stores, and add many new immersive features such as customization and graphics, a shop, and a structured game system.
