About SunRise

What Inspired Us

The inspiration for SunRise stemmed from the growing need to engage younger generations, like Gen Z and Gen Alpha, in financial literacy. These tech-savvy groups are entering adulthood with immense spending power but limited financial education. We wanted to bridge this gap by creating a platform that speaks their language—leveraging gamification, rewards, and social media to make learning about investing exciting and accessible.

What We Learned

Throughout this journey, we deepened our understanding of:

  • The importance of designing for user engagement through gamification.
  • How to align educational tools with real-world incentives to drive behavioral change.
  • The impact of social media and influencer culture on younger demographics. Additionally, we honed our skills in platform design, user experience, and real-time collaboration in a fast-paced hackathon setting.

How We Built SunRise

We built SunRise using modern technologies to ensure a seamless and scalable experience:

  • Front-End: Next.js, styled with Tailwind CSS and ShadCN UI for responsive and intuitive design.
  • Back-End: Supabase (PostgreSQL) for real-time data management and authentication.
  • Chatbot: VoiceFlow to provide conversational support for FAQs and platform guidance.
  • Collaboration: GitHub for version control and efficient team collaboration.
  • Deployment: AWS for hosting, ensuring reliability and scalability.

Challenges We Faced

  • Time Constraints: Working within a 24-hour hackathon required us to focus on prioritizing the most impactful features for our MVP.
  • Integration Hurdles: Setting up seamless interactions between the front-end, Supabase, and VoiceFlow under tight deadlines was a challenge.
  • Balancing Simplicity and Functionality: Designing a user-friendly experience while integrating gamification and rewards mechanics demanded significant iteration.
  • Marketing Strategy: Crafting an influencer-driven campaign that aligns with Sun Life’s brand values while appealing to Gen Z/Alpha required deep creative thinking.

Despite these challenges, we are proud to have developed a prototype that not only demonstrates the potential of SunRise but also lays the groundwork for expanding financial literacy among younger generations.
