SunFLow

Inspiration

Our persona, Alex, lives with asthma, a condition that some of us personally relate to, either from experience or through family and friends. We also connected deeply with her story as a newcomer to Canada, trying to navigate an unfamiliar healthcare system and culture. Her challenges inspired us to design something that makes care easier, more inclusive, and more human.

What it does

SunFLow is a connected app that supports daily asthma management while improving communication between patients, parents or guardians, and healthcare providers. It helps people from all backgrounds and stages of life understand their care, track their symptoms, and feel supported in every step of their health journey.

How we built it

We designed SunFLow using Figma, focusing on clean visuals, intuitive navigation, and a calm, welcoming interface inspired by Sun Life’s brand aesthetic.

Challenges we ran into

One of our biggest challenges was narrowing our scope. We had many ideas, but limited time to bring them to life. We chose to focus on the most meaningful gaps within Sun Life’s respiratory care system, the ones that directly impact Alex and others like her, and designed around those priorities.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the unique solution that we created as well as how thoughtful we were about the design, having created a very modern, minimal and airy design that matched our product and SunLife's brand perfectly.

What we learned

We learned the importance of identifying knowledge and communication gaps in existing systems. Instead of recreating what already exists, effective design means introducing something new, meaningful, and practical that genuinely improves the user’s experience.

What's next for SunFLow - Design jam F25

SunFLow’s design is meant to grow. While it currently supports asthma care, its framework can be expanded to other chronic conditions. With its personalized care plans and connected communication model, SunFlow has the potential to become a broader platform for chronic care management, helping more patients find clarity, comfort, and connection in their health journeys.
