Inspiration
As shopaholics who constantly go to places like Orchard and VivoCity to shop. We always wondered whether we could bring the authentic shopping experience that we see in real life into the virtual reality world!
What it does
In this VR clothing store, users can explore a full range of apparels with key information available at a glance (e.g sizes, colour). It also has a personalized mannequin tailored to the user’s body measurements. On the mannequin, users can mix and match different pieces to their liking. Next, there is an engaging virtual assistant to answer and entertain the users. Lastly, the app will have a simple payment system, which they can access through the mascot, to ease the entire shopping process.
How we built it
We built this prototype using the Meta Quest 3 headset. We made use of software such as Unity for the layout and programming, Blender for the 3D modeling and animations, Clip Studio Paint for the illustrations, Canva for the logo creation, and FIgma for the UI interfaces.
Challenges we ran into
We ran into multiple challenges some of which include the uploading of 3D models into Unity, creating our intended program logic, enabling connection between Unity and the VR headset and most importantly, communicating ideas within the group.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of learning Blender for the application of 3D models in Unity. We are also very happy with how the application was bug-free and easy to understand.
What we learned
We learned a lot about teamwork and communication. We also learned key knowledge on how to work with Unity and 3D modeling applications like Blender. Making scripts was painful yet very rewarding and beneficial for future use cases.
What's next for Sundae Styles
Maybe and hopefully in the future, we can deploy this idea to big brands such as Uniqlo or even create a new brand revolving VR shopping experience at home. As more and more people get into VR, people can shop in the comfort of their own homes without giving up the experience of a physical shopping experience and spend as much time as they want on the activity. Increasing productivity for both the users and the company.
