Inspiration

In Canada, there is about 6 months of darkness and cold. It's very popular to go to a sun destination during the winter times, but not everyone is able to escape to the Caribbean beach, so I had an idea of why not bring the Caribbean beach here, using AR

What it does

When you launch the filter, you can long tap to place the portal in comfortable position/place, and then tap the doorframe to collapse your reality and open the portal, at which point you can enter a beach oasis.

How I built it

I build the Occluder objects and the panorama texture sphere in blender, as well as the shattering animation. I assembled the objects into Spark AR

Challenges I ran into

Depending on which plane the plane-tracker captures (sometimes if the space is small, it will capture a desk rather than the floor) the portal becomes very tiny. To overcome this, I implemented the long-tap option to be able re-position the portal

Accomplishments that I'm proud of

I like how it all comes together to give the feeling to escape. Also, the collapsing door using time delay and animations imported from Blender. To me, I think it looks so cool

What I learned

I learned how to better incorporate textures, objects and animations from Blender and into Spark AR.

What's next for Sun Destination

I want to expand on this concept of "escape-ism" to different destinations and experiences like, walking on the edge of a cliff or CN tower. I want to explore ways of making the "space" seem more vast than it actually is. Let's say if you live in a small apartment, feeling like you're in an open grassy meadow.
