Inspiration

Sumo Cheer was inspired by the MidnightSumo Twitch.tv channel, which introduced me to the deep love and respect for sumo wrestling as both a sport and cultural tradition. The channel's passionate commentary and educational approach to sumo made me realize how underserved this incredible sport is.

Additionally, the r/sumo community on Reddit showed me how engaged sumo fans are when they have a platform to discuss matches, share knowledge, and celebrate the sport together. This community-driven enthusiasm became the foundation for building a game that could bring sumo's daily excitement to a broader audience while respecting its cultural significance.

I had difficulty remembering "rikishi" names and who I had cheered for previously, so I designed this app so people can "cheer" together and have fun doing it!
