Summit Pip

Inspiration

The theme “Summit” immediately made me think beyond just a physical peak. A summit represents challenge, persistence, and growth. I wanted to capture that idea in a way that felt both adventurous and personal, so I chose Piplup—a small but determined character—to symbolize how even something seemingly small can take on something as massive as a mountain. The contrast between Piplup’s size and the scale of a snowy summit helped emphasize the idea that determination matters more than size.

How we built it

I created the model by assembling multiple STL components in my 3D modeling software. The base was a snowy mountain structure, which I either sculpted or modified to give it a rugged, high-altitude feel. Then, I imported a Piplup model and customized it by adding ski and hiking gear—things like a jacket, goggles, and equipment—to match the expedition theme.

To make everything cohesive:

I aligned and scaled each component so Piplup naturally “fit” into the environment I merged or grouped parts into a single assembly for stability I applied coloring to highlight contrast—cool whites and blues for the mountain, and more vibrant tones for Piplup and the gear

Challenges we ran into

One of the biggest challenges was working with multiple STL files. Getting them to properly align, assemble, and behave as a single object required careful positioning and sometimes splitting parts into separate objects before recombining them.

Another challenge was maintaining detail while keeping the model clean and printable. Small features like gear and accessories had to be adjusted so they wouldn’t break or lose definition.

Finally, coloring was tricky—making sure the colors enhanced the story without overwhelming the design took some experimentation.
