Inspiration
As developers, we've worked on many projects in the past but we've noticed that after buying equipment for a specific project like a Raspberry Pi and completing the project, we just set it aside and don't use it for a long time and in some cases, we completely abandon it. Most of the time, we buy the equipment just to test our code and have no plans on utilizing the project after we've completed as it was merely to learn a specific topic. Raspberry Pis aren't too expensive but for projects that require new laptops or servers or other equipment, the expenses can add up quickly.
What it does
We created Summit to act as the first ever creator subscription box service. Every month, you pay a flat fee of $20 or a yearly $200. Every month, you get to select a specific item. If you're a developer, that may be a new arduino kit. If you're trying to get into photography, that may be a tripod. If you just want to try out some cool tech and don't want to pay hundreds of dollars, you could get a drone.
After you select the item you want for that month, you are sent your subscription box with your item. You can use the item for the month or even extend it to 2 or even 3 months if your project requires you to keep it longer. Once you are done, you simply ship the box back (shipping charges are included in the subscription fee).
Instead of spending hundreds of dollars buying products you may only use for a short period, Summit allows you to borrow products online in an easy and simple manner, for a flat subscription fee.
How we built it
The website was built using html5, css, and javascript. The database used to store all information was Firebase.
Challenges we ran into
The main challenge we faced was time as we had never built an app like this in such a short time. Most of the previous projects we worked on were over 36-48 hour hackathons or week long projects.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are very proud that we were able to finish our project within the 12 hour limit and although we didnt accomplish everything we wanted to, we learned a lot while participating.
