In today’s fast-paced world, staying informed can feel overwhelming. With so many news sources and a constant stream of information, it’s easy to miss out on what truly matters. We wanted to create a solution that makes news consumption effortless, accessible, and engaging.

The idea behind SummerEase was born from the need to simplify news delivery, offering users a convenient way to stay updated without reading long articles or scrolling through endless feeds. Inspired by podcasts and the growing trend of audio-based content, we envisioned a daily news assistant that delivers personalized audio updates directly to Telegram.

What it does

SummerEase is a news companion bot that provides users with daily audio updates on their favorite topics.

By subscribing through our platform, users receive a curated selection of news in a short, digestible audio format, delivered directly to their Telegram at 9 AM Paris time.

How we built it

The development of SummerEase involved multiple technologies:

  • ⚙️ MAKE for the automatic workflow (GPT-4o, ElevenLabs, etc.)
  • 🏗️ NestJS for backend and API development
  • 🚀 Node.js as the runtime environment for scalability and performance
  • 🤖 Telegram Bot API for seamless interaction with users
  • 📊 Airtable Integration to manage and store user preferences and news content

Challenges we ran into

Building SummerEase came with several challenges:

  • 📰 Scraping: Extracting relevant and accurate news data from various sources
  • 🔗 Linking users to the bot and database: Ensuring seamless integration between Telegram users, our bot, and the database
  • ⏳ Response time: Currently still long but with room for optimization
  • ⚡ Parallelizing audio and text summary generation: Improving performance by generating both simultaneously
