Inspiration

Have you ever wanted to read something, but felt it was too long? We feel "TL;DR" (Too long; Didn't read) syndrome all the time!

What it does

Summarease is here to help! Summarease can summarizes news article, wiki pages and essays (anything actually) with ease. Using our easy to use UI, just paste in the text or URL, and we will summarize and shorten the article with our advanced algorithm.

How we built it

Frontend: We started off with writing up a design for the UI elements. We slowly worked our way towards completing the UI design before implementing the logic for the connection with the program server.

Backend: Flask was used to communicate with the website. We summarizes articles by using the word rank algorithm, implemented in Python.

Challenges we ran into

We also tried to train a sequence to sequence recurrent neural network in Pytorch on the Text simplification data sets. However, due the time constraint and the lack of computing power, we weren't able to verify if this will be a promising method.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Completing a full project in lesser than 12 hours.
  2. Completing a full description in lesser then 12 minutes.
  3. Lesser than 12 (0 actually) merge conflicts

What's next for Summarease

  1. PDF upload support.
  2. Training the English to Simple English translator using a sequence to sequence network.
