SultanBazar - AI-Powered Royal E-Commerce

Inspiration

Traditional shopping for heritage products (like Jamdani sarees, Sunderban honey, or pure Attar) lacks the personal concierge service of grand bazaars. We used Google Gemini 1.5 Flash via Google AI Studio to bring that interactive, personal shopping guidance to a modern e-commerce platform.

What it does

  • Sultan AI Concierge: Real-time AI assistant that understands natural language (Bengali & English) to recommend catalog products based on user needs and budget.
  • Curated Royal Catalog: Traditional items with live pricing (BDT ৳), 30% OFF discount badges, and stock tracking.
  • Complete Shopping Suite: Live search filtering, instant cart/wishlist management via Zustand, customer-seller chat, and interactive reviews.

How we built it

  • Frontend: Next.js (App Router), TypeScript, Tailwind CSS, Lucide Icons.
  • State Management: Zustand with local storage persistence.
  • AI Backend: Next.js API routes integrated with Google AI Studio (@google/genai SDK / Gemini 1.5 Flash) feeding dynamic store context to the model.

Challenges we ran into

  • API Resiliency: Optimizing serverless route prompts for fast Gemini response times and handling fallback cases gracefully.
  • UI & Asset Optimization: Ensuring direct CDN images render reliably without domain authorization errors.
  • Bilingual Persona: Tuning system instructions for natural, polite responses in both Bengali and English.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Seamlessly integrating Google Gemini API into a full-featured e-commerce workflow.
  • Creating an aesthetic "Royal Theme" design system that stands out from generic shopping sites.
  • Delivering zero-latency interaction between search, cart, live chat, and AI assistance.

What we learned

  • Effective prompt context engineering by feeding JSON catalogs into Gemini 1.5 Flash.
  • Balancing serverless API calls with client-side Zustand state management in Next.js.

What's next for SultanBazar

  • Gemini Vision Search: Allowing users to upload outfit or perfume photos to find similar items.
  • AI Review Summarizer: Generating bulleted "Royal Verdict" summaries from customer reviews.
  • Multi-Vendor Portal: Enabling local Bangladeshi artisans to list and manage their products directly.
