Inspiration
I’ve always been a slow learner, and for years I felt left behind. But over time, I learned that slow learning isn’t a flaw — it’s a different rhythm that deserves its own space. That’s why I built Sulhofa — an AI-powered daily learning companion for slow-paced learners. Inspired by the turtle 🐢, Sulhofa delivers one small, calm learning step every day to build habits gently and consistently.
What it does
Sulhofa is a web app that delivers daily micro-lessons to help users learn slowly but steadily. Each day, users receive one focused, simplified concept in a distraction-free interface. Key features include: • A calm daily learning task • A turtle-themed progress tracker • A notes section for personal reflections • A planner/calendar view for long-term learning • An “About” page explaining the learning philosophy behind Sulhofa
How I built it
I used: • React for building the dynamic UI • Tailwind CSS for creating a soft, calming visual theme • TypeScript to maintain code safety and readability • Hosted the project on Vercel, and used Markdown for content formatting • Figma was used to design the turtle mascot and learning layout before development
Challenges I ran into
• Balancing simplicity with usefulness — how to offer value with minimal overwhelm
• Designing a UI that feels calm without being boring
• Supporting flexibility for different learning speeds without adding confusion
• Finding the right tone of content to encourage slow learners without sounding patronizing
Accomplishments that l proud of
• Creating a functional and beautiful app in a short amount of time
• Designing a unique educational tool that speaks to underserved learners
• Building an emotionally supportive interface — not just technically sound
• Receiving positive feedback from testers who identified as slow-paced learners
What l learned
• That designing with empathy can be a superpower — especially in education • That calm and consistent learning tools are rare but deeply needed • That even the smallest feature (like a turtle mascot) can make users feel seen and supported • How important accessibility and clarity are in both code and UI design
What's next for Sulhofa
Sulhofa is just getting started. Here’s what we plan to build next: • AI-Powered Personalization: Use AI to adjust daily content based on each learner’s pace, mood, and interests. • Mobile App: Launch iOS and Android versions for easier access and habit-building on the go. • Community Garden: Create a peaceful online space where slow learners can share progress, encourage each other, and grow together. • Voice Narration: Add calming voiceovers for auditory learners and accessibility. • Offline Mode: Allow users to download lessons for calm, focused learning without internet distractions. • Teacher/Parent Dashboard: Let educators and guardians assign and monitor learning journeys in a gentle, non-intrusive way.
My goal is to grow Sulhofa into a trusted companion that makes slow learning feel natural, safe, and celebrated.
