Inspiration

We’re roommates, and we built SuiteSync to solve a problem we face ourselves: coordinating friends, studying, and sleep in a shared space. Group chats help us communicate, but keeping track of everyone’s routines and finding compromises still takes work.

What it does

SuiteSync turns typed or spoken requests into event drafts, checks them against schedules and house rules, and suggests alternatives. Affected roommates can approve, decline, or request changes before a plan is confirmed.

How we built it

We used Next.js, React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS for the interface, Supabase for accounts and shared data, and Claude to interpret natural-language requests. Our deterministic scheduling engine handles conflict detection and alternative suggestions, including how noise travels between rooms.

Challenges we ran into

The hardest parts were handling ambiguous requests, finding alternatives that actually resolve conflicts, and keeping the interface simple. We also had to distinguish personal preferences from shared rules without taking decisions away from roommates.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Turning a problem we experience as roommates into a working shared-living app.
  • Supporting typed and spoken requests, including natural-language follow-up changes.
  • Building a tested conflict engine that considers schedules, house rules, and noise between rooms.
  • Suggesting workable alternatives instead of simply flagging problems.
  • Connecting proposals, roommate approvals, and a shared calendar in one complete workflow. ## What we learned We learned that AI is most useful when connected to reliable logic and clear human choices. Building together taught us how shared types, testing, and communication help separate pieces become one working product. ## What's next for SuiteSync We want to test with real households, add calendar import, and make proposing compromises easier.
