SuiStream

Inspiration

Traditional streaming platforms require users to trust centralized services with their data, subscriptions, and content access. We wanted to explore how blockchain technology could give users greater ownership, transparency, and control while delivering a familiar streaming experience. By leveraging the Sui blockchain, we created a decentralized streaming platform where users authenticate with their wallets instead of relying on traditional accounts.

What it does

SuiStream is a decentralized movie and TV show streaming platform built on the Sui blockchain. Users connect their Sui wallet to securely access the platform and stream content while maintaining full control over their identity and on-chain interactions. By integrating blockchain technology with a modern streaming interface, SuiStream demonstrates how decentralized applications can provide secure, user-centric entertainment experiences.

How we built it

We built the frontend using React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS to create a fast, responsive, and intuitive user interface. The application's blockchain functionality is powered by the Sui blockchain, with smart contracts written in Move to manage wallet interactions and on-chain functionality. Users authenticate by connecting their Sui wallets, enabling a seamless Web3 experience without traditional username and password authentication.

Challenges we ran into

Integrating wallet authentication while maintaining a smooth user experience. Designing smart contracts in Move that were both secure and efficient. Bridging traditional Web2 streaming workflows with decentralized Web3 authentication. Ensuring the frontend remained responsive while interacting with blockchain transactions.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Successfully built a decentralized streaming platform powered by the Sui blockchain. Implemented secure wallet-based authentication without relying on centralized user accounts. Created a modern, responsive streaming interface using React, TypeScript, and Tailwind CSS. Demonstrated how blockchain can enhance user ownership and privacy in digital entertainment.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained deeper experience with the Sui ecosystem and Move smart contract development. We also learned how to integrate blockchain functionality into a modern React application while balancing usability, security, and performance. The project strengthened our understanding of Web3 architecture and decentralized application development.

What's next for SuiStream

Our vision for SuiStream includes: Decentralized content ownership and creator publishing. NFT-based subscriptions and premium content access. On-chain viewing history and personalized recommendations while preserving user privacy. Token-based rewards for viewers and content creators. Community governance using Sui-based voting mechanisms. Support for decentralized storage solutions such as Walrus or IPFS for hosting media content. Enhanced recommendation systems and social features to build a community-driven streaming platform.
