In today’s culture of overconsumption, financial discipline is more important than ever. This tool aims to help users identify impulse and meet their savings goal
Inspiration My first salary came from working as a temporary admin assistant. It was something I was very proud of, because it came from my hard work, and because I could spend that entire amount on things that I liked, not having to worry about rent or groceries. In two weeks, I managed to deplete the $1500 that I had worked so hard to earn and spent it on things I wanted, instead of saving and investing.
What it does
How I built it. I built it with HTML, CSS and JavaScript. After binge-watching multiple videos on how other people built videos using these 3 tools, I made my own as well.
Challenges I ran into It honestly always felt very basic to me, so the more I constantly wanted to add extra features, the more complicated it got. For example, I had a mini avatar to let users input their names, occupations and age and use real-time data to see what would tempt them. For instance, youths are more likely to justify spending $16 on a drink at Starbucks than maybe boomers are. However, my code did not work, and I felt very overstimulated and decided to scrap the idea entirely. Sometimes, good enough is good enough.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of. I'm proud of sticking with this. Initially, I did not want to embark on this journey since I am a complete beginner, but I really did have a meaningful time making this website, and I think it helps curb unnecessary expenses.
