At the core, I want to create technology to help better my community!
What it does && How I built it
Using Apple's integrated development environment, graphical user interfaces, a multi paradigm programming language (Swift), and SDK integrations, I created a mobile app for my high school that I plan on launching in the beginning of 2022. With iOS's strong UIKit, triggered segues, and a non-linear data structure, I was able to create a data tree for the foundation of hundreds of UIs. This allows my user interface to account for hundreds of classes and programs within the school, students now can use a convenient table of contents to pick their classes. Currently, the prototype shows the concept of the app and will be able to account for all classes soon ! Each class has an in-depth description and an iteration of the requirements for each class, making it very effective for students and administration. In addition, using the same data tree, I created an academies and concentration feature that displays great information on academic opportunities at EHTHS. The academies' features show all of the 7 different course tracks one can follow at EHT and all the information and specific courses needed for students within the academies. The concentration feature shows students dozens of different programs they can follow to graduate with a certificate within the program. I will also be using my software to do presentations at the local middle school to recruit students into these programs and increase awareness across all career fields. Using a UITableView, I created a GPA calculator where the user inputs his classes and grades. My algorithm takes the data and outputs the students' GPA, weighted GPA, and GPA out of 100. This not only gives students the information they need to send to colleges, but it allows them to rank their GPA's against the averages of the colleges they are aiming for.
Challenges we ran into
The UI data tree and the UITableView cell were difficult, but through extensive research on GitHub and StackOverFlow I was able to solve it.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
This project will always be special to me because I am proud to potentially launch software to help thousands of people within my community.
What I learned
I learned a great amount on UI, but learning how to create applicable software for to help a great amount of people was the best art. I have created lots of software the past couple of years to explore my passion and to enhance my engineering skills, but this project is the one I am most proud of. The world's greatest tech entrepreneurs started with a vision. The root of their success all started at making an impact within their community, before their idea could change the world and I believe this is a good foundation for my path.
What's next for Egg Harbor Township High School
I plan to launch my software to benefit over 3000+ students, teachers, and administrators in my township after the hackathon !
