Inspiration

We wanted to build challenging Sudoku game in Reddit where players can compete and create their own Sudoku challenges for fellow sudoku lovers players.

What it does

  • The goal is simple — fill the 9×9 grid so that every row, column, and three by three box contains the digits one through nine exactly once. Choose your difficulty mode — easy, medium, or hard — and see how far your logic can take you. To play, just tap any empty cell to select it, then type a number from one to nine or use the on-screen buttons. If you make a mistake, don’t worry — error cells are highlighted in red so you can fix them quickly. Each row, each column, and each three by three box must contain all digits from one to nine, no repeats allowed. After winning the challenge, you can share with others about your achievements.

  • Customized Sudoku: For those who like an extra challenge, you can even create your own custom Sudoku puzzles and share them with fellow Redditors to see who can solve them fastest.

How we built it

We built Sudocrack using Reddit’s Devvit framework, powered by TypeScript and React components for interactivity. Kiro assisted with setup, debugging, and deployment — helping us configure the project files, fix installation conflicts, and successfully deploy the app to a test subreddit environment.

Challenges we ran into

We encountered issues with deployment conflicts on Reddit’s test subreddits, where older app versions blocked new installs. We also had to debug non-interactive post behavior and ensure smooth multiplayer logic within Reddit’s limited UI framework.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We successfully deployed a working Sudoku prototype on Reddit that supports puzzle interaction and custom game creation. We also created a clean development pipeline and a foundation for real-time multiplayer functionality.

What we learned

We learned how to work effectively with Reddit’s Devvit platform, manage deployments, and design interactive UI within Reddit posts. We also deepened our understanding of multiplayer synchronization and user engagement within social communities.

What's next for Sudocrack

Next, we’re launching real-time multiplayer matches, global leaderboards, and live rooms where players can race to finish puzzles together. We plan to add achievements, difficulty-based matchmaking, and weekly tournaments to make Sudoku more competitive — and more fun — than ever.
