Inspiration
Script: The severe acute respiratory syndrome coronavirus 2 (SARS-CoV-2), commonly called COVID-19 disease, has left us in the middle of a defining global health crisis. The disease was initially an epidemic but soon transformed into a pandemic. The virus spread from seemingly healthy, asymptomatic carriers and affected the most vulnerable, elders and children, severely. The mortality rate is the highest in adults over the age of 65 according to a report by the Centre for Disease Control and Prevention. In such a situation, Governments and Medical Professionals around the world have advised elders(particularly those above the age of 60) to remain at home as much as possible. This creates a problem for elders who live alone and go out themselves to get their daily needs and other essential items. This may put them at a greater risk of being affected by the Covid-19 virus. As a solution to this issue, We present to you Succourance.
What it does
Succourance is an application that aims to provide help and support to elders by connecting them to volunteers. Here, The elderly people post their requirements ranging from medicines, groceries, household chores, emotional support to emergency SOS. As soon as the user posts the requirement, all the active volunteers in the nearby area get a notification on their mobile phones. As soon as the volunteer accepts the task, the user is notified and the notification is pulled down for other volunteers. The volunteers then connect with the user and carry out the task as required.
How we built it
We used HTML, CSS , React for the front end and Firebase for the backend
Challenges we ran into
We had some errors in the frontend with React
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Worked with React for the first time. Created an email notification service for the first time.
What we learned
User Authentication in Firebase and Created an email notification service for the first time.
What's next for Succourance
We plan to fix the errors in our application and add a few more features like real-time volunteer location tracking. Then we plan to scale the application and finally roll it out
