Inspiration
As a first-generation student myself, I feel a strong connection to students who may not feel they have the same opportunities as others who belong to different classes, socioeconomic statuses, or racial identities. I am a true believer that everyone should have a chance at opportunity and make their own mark in this world, regardless of where they come from. I watch my mother, father, and older sister break the bounds of stereotypes and earn their position in this life. I wish to emulate and inspire others to replicate their tenacity, passion, and ambition to succeed and make a difference.
What it does
Success Sphere is an all-around platform specifically designed for first-generation and low-income students. From specific scholarships to loans to tips and tricks for applying for student financial aid, Success Sphere is the one-stop shop for students.
How we built it
I used the WIX website builder to personalize and write the information regarding Success Sphere.
Challenges we ran into
I had some trouble gathering the right information to ensure an accurate pitch, and I went through a learning curve using WIX, as I am quite new to the software.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
I am truly proud of what this demo website and organization represents; as I have said before it is really hard for students to succeed if they feel like they do not have the resources around them, and while I have been blessed to have some great mentors in life, many students lack guidance and often have no choice but to give up. At Success Sphere, I want that to never be an option. I really enjoyed crafting ideas for the prompt and think that it is a wonderful issue that is being brought to our attention, and I hope to one day have the means to make this a reality.
What we learned
I learned that creating a website, let alone an entire organization, takes a lot of time, skills, and resources. While this was just a demo website, it took many hours to edit, research, and add the final touches to make something I am truly proud of.
What's next for Success Sphere
While, as a current sophomore, I don't have the resources or financial means to officially start this business, I hope that one day I can make it a reality, possibly with the help of my older sister and any co-workers or friends, I make along the way in my future career. As far as what I plan to do is work towards making Success Sphere something truly impactful and useful, I will continue to research any opportunities and brainstorm ideas about this that still may not be available to first-generation and or low-income students. I am also thinking of possibly starting a group blog where I and others passionate about this could combine ideas, research, and any other materials or opportunities.
