Inspiration
This all started when I read a tweet from a founder who said, "Unused consumer subscriptions in the US are estimated to cost $84 billion annually."
That number shocked me. It felt like a real pain point. I did a quick search using Grok to see if the problem was well-documented, and sure enough, it was. So I built an early version of the product, then created a waitlist and shared the idea on my socials. It generated a lot of interest, so I decided to keep going.
What it does
SubSlayer is a subscription management platform that helps users track and manage their subscriptions. They can add, remove, and organize subscriptions across different services. It also sends automated reminders before renewals, giving users the chance to cancel or continue.
How I built it
I built the entire product using Bolt. I started by creating the dashboard, adding auth, and then finally the landing page with the waitlist. I then deployed it to Netlify.
Challenges I ran into
This was my first time building a full-stack product, so I hit a lot of bumps along the way. I ran into multiple issues integrating with Supabase, and it took me seven iterations before I finally reached something I could call an MVP.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm proud I stuck with it. I didn’t quit even when I hit frustrating roadblocks. I kept shipping, learning, and improving until the product worked.
What I learned
Building a real product is hard. Vibe coding sounds fun and simple, but actually implementing something that works -- something people can use -- is a different level. I have huge respect for anyone who ships.
I also learned to manage my time, mindset, and emotions. It’s been a roller-coaster, but I think that’s part of the journey when you’re building something real that could actually help people.
And maybe that’s my biggest takeaway: it's not just about building. It’s about building something people truly need or want.
What's next for SubSlayer
I plan to keep improving it -- make it more intuitive, more elegant, and more useful. The goal is to make subscription chaos a thing of the past.
