Inspiration

As freelancers, we live in a world powered by digital tools. From editing software to automation platforms, we subscribe to dozens of services just to stay productive. But over time, the list grows—and with it, silent charges that slip through the cracks. We built Subtrack to fix that. A simple tool to help freelancers stop bleeding money and finally gain clarity over their recurring expenses.

What it does

Subtrack is a sleek, web-based dashboard that helps freelancers track all their SaaS subscriptions in one place. You can add subscriptions manually, see a pie chart of spending by category, get upcoming renewal alerts, toggle dark mode, and export your data for bookkeeping. It’s built to be lightweight, beautiful, and functional.

How we built it

We used a single AI-powered Bolt.new prompt to build this full-stack React + Tailwind web app in one shot. The app runs entirely in-browser, storing data in memory for demo purposes. We embedded a custom logo, designed the UI to be responsive and minimal, and implemented features like CSV export, renewal alert logic, and spending visualization—all from one prompt.

Challenges we ran into

The biggest challenge was distilling an entire user experience—logic, design, data flow—into a single AI prompt with no room for post-editing. It pushed us to think lean, prioritize user needs, and be crystal clear with every instruction. Building without a safety net was intense but empowering.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We’re proud that we built a useful, fully functional app from just one prompt. The fact that it not only works but solves a real problem freelancers face makes it incredibly rewarding. We proved that constraint fuels creativity—and AI can truly speed up product development.

What we learned

We learned how to communicate clearly with AI, think in components before writing a line of code, and build an entire product ecosystem—from UX to logic—with radical simplicity. This project also deepened our empathy for freelancers and the financial stress they often deal with silently.

What's next for Subscription Management Dashboard

We're turning Subtrack into a real SaaS product. Next steps include persistent cloud storage (via Supabase), email integration for live reminders, Stripe API for auto-tracking subscriptions, and multi-device syncing. We’re building it for every freelancer who wants peace of mind over their monthly tools.
