The inspiration behind the work
Going into this hackathon our inspiration came from the top down shooter game Vampire Survivors. However, instead of it being third person, the goal was to adapt Trident to make it a first person shooter.
What it does
Trident functions similar to every other FPS game with enemies of three different levels spawning at different rates as you progress through the game. Trident continues until the players health bar is depleted with enemies increasing in difficulty time progresses
Building process
Landscape and movement of both main player and enemies was done through Unreal Engine 5
Rendering of Enemies and trident done in blender
Background music done on FL studio, with sound effects from Freesound.org
Challenges
The coding for the enemies presented several problems that required multiple debugging attempts to get the leviathans to move correctly. This was the main major challenge as well as some minor hiccups that had to be dealt with along the way
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- The procedural generation system we created through unreal engine 5 that allows for the timed appearance of certain enemies. -The dash attack and combination with the animation for the leviathan.
- The fact our group was able to produce a working game in 24 hours as none of us had ever done a hackathon, and most of our group had never made a game before
