Columbia is an ever changing city with the amount of college students, and along with city changes, there are a lot of people moving around at odd times. The website we have designed helps the people trying to find subleasing, which has always been a problem around the campus. The site is one of the first to help the people that have a hard time finding the resources on their own, which is not uncommon. Our site allows users to interact directly with the housing without having to deal with hours of searching through facebook and other forums for specifically sub-leasing.
What it does
Allows people to post listings for subleasing, and allows for searching of subleases to simplify the process.
How I built it
We built this through first through creating a mySQL database and then linking it, once we had the basics set up we were able to create a website around this data to properly display, and manipulate the data.
Challenges I ran into
No one on the team had any experience with HTML website building, or with php scripting. We also had never linked a mySQL database before or even created one. No nearly the entire project was a challenge that we had to overcome.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The fact that we were about to correctly link a mySQL database with our website and script the website so that it ran smoothly.
What I learned
We all learned a tremendous amount about the basics of HTML and php, and in the way that they interact with a mySQL database.
What's next for SubLeasing Columbia
We hope to improve the site in order to allow images, to be uploaded and searched through, and to refine the search features of the website.
