Inspiration
the inspiration to try out ai film making was by seeing some creation by creators in you tube. The core inspiration for Subject B3 lies in the classic sci-fi archetype of the "Flawed Experiment." We were fascinated by the script's backstory of Robert Karlos, a scientist who intended to genetically engineer ants to assist with "household chores and farming" The turning point—where a dosage error transforms a benevolent creation into a monster—explores the terrifying consequences of scientific hubris. We wanted to visualize the specific biological mechanics described in the screenplay, specifically the Ant-S serum. Karlos mentions that the medicine makes the subject grow "1cm a day," but the overdose accelerated this process uncontrollably. This mathematical error serves as the catalyst for the horror that unfolds in the Black Forest.
What it does
Subject B3 is a generative AI short film that visualizes a high-stakes sci-fi thriller screenplay. It tells the story of a military rescue team in the Black Forest who stumble upon a hidden nest of giant ants. The project captures two parallel storylines: 1)The Survival Horror: Soldiers facing a physical threat from a creature that can "bite through metal" and has multiplied into a swarm. 2) The Corporate Conspiracy: A shadow plot led by the disfigured scientist Laprio and the corporate tycoon Panumas, who view the "monster" as a asset worth "50$ million".
How we built it
1) We utilized a workflow combining Veo (for video generation) and Whisk (for image consistency) to translate the screenplay's shot list into a cohesive visual narrative.
2) Script Analysis: We broke down the screenplay into individual shots, identifying key visual requirements like "Aerial Drone Shot" and "Low Angle Shot".
3) Character Profiling: We created strict visual definitions for the antagonists. Laprio required a specific "disfigured" and "messy" look to reflect his survival of the lab accident , while Panumas needed to exist in a contrasting "sterile, high-tech" environment.
4) Audio-Visual Prompting: We learned that audio cues drive visual pacing. For the helicopter crash sequence, we explicitly prompted for "strong wind and rain" and "helicopter blades" to ensure the AI understood the turbulence required for the crash scene.
Challenges we ran into
1) The Split-Screen Dynamic: Scene 07 required a "Split Screen" conversation between Laprio (in a windy, dark exterior) and Panumas (in a silent, bright office). Generating two distinct lighting environments and weather conditions within a single AI video frame was technically difficult. We solved this by using precise compositional prompting to separate the "Manic" left side from the "Corporate" right side. 2) Scale Consistency: Visualizing the sheer size of the threat was a challenge. The script describes the ant as a "Giant" capable of chewing through iron doors. We had to use specific camera angles, such as the "Low Angle Shot" in Scene 08, to force the perspective and make the creature loom correctly over the soldiers. 3) Narrative Pacing: The script contains complex dialogue, such as Laprio's revelation about the specific "Ant from B3" being a Queen. Compressing these narrative beats into 5-8 second video generations required us to break long monologues into distinct "acting beats"—separating the reaction shots from the speaking shots.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are particularly proud of the "Swarm Reveal" in Scene 08. The script describes a terrifying moment where soldiers kill one ant, only to see "dozens more ants of the same size swarm out". Successfully visualizing this escalation from a single victory to overwhelming defeat was a major milestone.
What we learned
Environment as Character: We learned that the setting is just as important as the actors. The contrast between the "abandoned laboratory" labeled "No Entry" and the lush but dangerous "Black Forest" created a necessary tonal shift between the mystery and the action.
The "Queen" Factor: We learned how to build suspense through dialogue. The realization that the escaped subject was a "Queen... ready to lay eggs" changes the genre from a monster movie to an apocalyptic threat.
Prompt Engineering: We refined our ability to use cinematic terminology (e.g., "Whip pan / Quick zoom" ) to control the AI's camera movement, ensuring the action felt directed rather than random.
