Inspiration

I'm an extremely disorganized and easily distracted person. I started this project recently to help myself and others similar to me focus on what really matters.

What it does

Stymer is a very minimalist (I mean VERY) study timer that allows input for time and displays a visually pleasing timer to the user.

How we built it

As a very new programmer, I wasn't sure where to start. I eventually settled on keeping it simple, given that its functionality is relatively static. Plain old HTML, CSS (SASS), and JavaScript.

Challenges we ran into

Given my new status, figuring out the intricacies of JavaScript alongside making the app aesthetically pleasing proved quite difficult. Learning different CSS properties, JavaScript functions, etc.. Also, the amount of quality of life fixes just stacked on top of one another. Each error presented a new one, just bugs to be squashed.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

I'm honestly just quite proud I got something out there. My team wasn't able to attend (no hard feelings to them. They had important responsibilities), so I decided that it would be better to submit something in a prototype stage rather than nothing. That's exactly what I'm doing.

What we learned

Honestly, lots. A timer is more intricate than I would have thought!

What's next for Stymer

I hope to continue to develop Stymer by adding notes for users to write, custom user themes, a friends system to stay motivated by seeing your peers study, tracking what you were doing for how long, and much more.
