Stylete.app Project Overview

Inspiration

I've been inspired to create Stylete.app after learning about the massive amounts of fabric scraps, unsold inventory, and discarded clothing that end up in landfills. I saw an opportunity to connect waste generators with potential users, turning what was once considered trash into valuable resources for creatives, as well as anyone interested in being eco-conscious.

What it does

Stylete.app is a mobile marketplace that connects fashion companies, individual sellers, and eco-conscious buyers. It allows:

  • Fashion companies to list and sell excess fabric, unsold inventory, and materials
  • Individual sellers to offer secondhand clothing and craft supplies
  • Buyers to purchase these items at discounted rates

How we built it

We built Stylete.app using a combination of technologies:

  • Frontend: HTML, Tailwind CSS
  • Backend: PHP
  • Authentication, Payment Processing, etc.

Challenges we ran into

  1. Balancing user experience for diverse user types (companies, individual sellers, buyers)
  2. Bringing in the smaller, working picture. I was considering the bigger picture, and that led to a harder time trying to get features perfected one at a time.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  1. Creating a user-friendly interface that simplifies the listing and buying process
  2. Fully functioning MVP, with both user and merchant side completed!
  3. Custom onboarding based on device used.

What we learned

I not only learned how to persevere, but I've also learned how to use PHP for backend. I've received a lot of guidance from not only mentors, but my friend, Andrew as well, and they've all taught me so much on how to integrate frontend and backend together.

What's next for Stylete.app

  1. Implementing AI-powered recommendations for buyers
  2. Creating an educational component with upcycling tutorials and sustainability tips
  3. Expanding to include home textiles and accessories
  4. Create events for best use of leftover fabrics, community engagement
