Inspiration
My friends and I were looking for apartments for the summer and the first place that has come to my mind to search was Facebook Marketplace. I then realized, damn, there's literally no platform for students to find apartments. A semester is usually 4 months, full-year is 8 months. Airbnb is definitely a no-go for that, but a full-year lease is also meh (what about winter break and summer? Gotta pay for those months where you're not even home?). That's where StuPod came in.
What it does
StuPod aka Student Pod, as a whole, is a student-focused platform where people can find affordable apartments. Lowkey though, you can find friends. If you're a student looking for a place, a roommate, or you're a landlord looking for student(s) to rent your place, StuPod is for you. You can personalize your posts and add a bio (kind of similar to Tinder) so you find the perfect place/roommate!
How I built it
Literally just HTML and CSS. Used Procreate to draw the logo.
Challenges I ran into
Wanted to make a fun and interactive form at the beginning where students/landlords can fill in their info and what they're looking for/selling. Overestimated my capabilities as a newbie programmer. Anyways.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
Doing a hackathon by myself for the first time!
What I learned
You got to be patient. Working alone sometimes feels draining, and you feel like making no progress, but you got this!
What's next for StuPod
So much! Definitely plan on making StuPod dynamic. Create that form that I've wanted to do since the beginning. Make it prettier!
