Inspiration

Students often juggle multiple tools—notes, flashcards, calendars, and chat apps—without a unified workspace. The inspiration for StudySync AI came from imagining a modern, premium SaaS platform that merges productivity, collaboration, and AI tutoring into one seamless experience.

What it does

StudySync AI is an AI-powered collaborative study workspace. It combines Notion-style notes, Quizlet-inspired flashcards, Discord-like study rooms, and an AI tutor into a single platform. Students can take notes, generate flashcards, collaborate in real time, track focus sessions, and receive AI-driven study recommendations—all in one place.

How we built it

  • Frontend: React + Tailwind CSS for a responsive, modern UI
  • Backend: Node.js + Express with MongoDB for data persistence
  • AI: OpenAI API for tutoring, flashcard generation, and study recommendations
  • Collaboration: WebSockets for real-time presence, chat, and whiteboard sync
  • Deployment: GitHub + cloud hosting for version control and scalability

Challenges I ran into

  • Insufficient MeDo credit/token
  • Designing a consistent, premium SaaS UI with accessibility in mind
  • Implementing real-time collaboration features (live cursors, chat, whiteboard sync)
  • Balancing AI integration with usability and student trust
  • Managing scope within hackathon time constraints

Accomplishments that we're proud of

  • Built a production-grade frontend with smooth animations and micro-interactions
  • Integrated AI features that generate flashcards, summaries, and study recommendations
  • Created collaborative study rooms with live presence indicators and shared tasks
  • Designed a unified workspace that feels like a real SaaS product

What I learned

  • How to design and implement real-time collaboration systems
  • Best practices for integrating AI into educational workflows
  • Importance of accessibility-first design for diverse student needs
  • How to balance ambitious features with hackathon deadlines

What's next for StudySync - AI powered collaborative study workspace

  • Implement user case function completely after token/credit recharge
