Inspiration
As students, we noticed how difficult it can be to keep up with lectures, organize notes, and study efficiently before exams. Many students spend hours rewriting notes or searching for study resources instead of actually learning the material. We wanted to create a tool that makes studying smarter, faster, and more personalized using AI.
What it does
StudySprint AI is an AI-powered study assistant that transforms notes, lecture slides, and study materials into interactive learning tools. Users can upload PDFs, PowerPoint slides, or typed notes, and the platform automatically generates:
- Flashcards
- Practice quizzes
- Summaries
- Personalized study plans
- Simplified explanations for difficult topics
The goal is to help students spend less time organizing information and more time actually learning.
How we built it
We built the frontend using React and Tailwind CSS to create a clean and responsive user interface. The backend was developed using Python and Flask for handling uploads, AI processing, and quiz generation. We integrated the OpenAI API to generate summaries, flashcards, and practice questions from uploaded study material.
For document processing, we used PDF parsing libraries to extract text from lecture slides and notes. GitHub was used for version control and collaboration throughout development.
Challenges we ran into
One of the biggest challenges was handling different file formats and ensuring the extracted text stayed organized and readable for the AI model. Another challenge was generating accurate quiz questions while keeping them relevant to the uploaded material.
We also spent a lot of time improving the user experience to make the platform simple and intuitive for students under time pressure.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- Successfully generating study materials from uploaded notes
- Creating a clean and user-friendly interface
- Integrating AI to provide personalized learning support
- Building a functional MVP within the hackathon timeframe
What we learned
During this project, we learned more about AI integration, API handling, frontend/backend communication, and document parsing. We also improved our teamwork, time management, and rapid prototyping skills during the hackathon.
What's next for StudySprint AI
In the future, we want to:
- Add voice-based tutoring
- Support collaborative study groups
- Track student progress over time
- Add spaced repetition for flashcards
- Create a mobile app version
- Integrate calendar-based study scheduling
