Inspiration
Students often struggle to understand complex topics, prepare for exams, and find reliable answers from their study materials. I wanted to build a personal AI study companion that makes learning easier, smarter, and more personalized.
What it does
StudySphere AI is an AI-powered learning platform that provides source-grounded explanations, adaptive quizzes, personalized study plans, progress tracking, and topic mastery insights. It aims to help students learn at their own pace and prepare more effectively for exams.
How we built it
We designed StudySphere AI using a modern web application architecture with Next.js, React, and TypeScript. The platform combines AI-powered explanations with document-based knowledge retrieval, quiz generation, learner progress tracking, and Bayesian Knowledge Tracing (BKT) to estimate topic mastery. It is designed to support AI providers such as Gemini and OpenAI, along with a local fallback option.
Challenges we faced
Some of the biggest challenges were keeping AI answers grounded in learning materials, maintaining accurate source citations, adapting questions to different skill levels, and tracking learning progress meaningfully. We focused on source provenance, explainable mastery estimates, and reliable fallback behavior to address these challenges.
What we learned
Building StudySphere AI helped us explore AI integration, retrieval-augmented generation (RAG), personalized learning, knowledge tracing, and full-stack application development. We also learned the importance of responsible AI, transparent evaluation, and making educational technology accessible to different types of learners.
What's next
We aim to improve multilingual support, expand document processing, enhance personalized recommendations, and evaluate learning outcomes with reproducible benchmarks. Our vision is to make quality, personalized learning more accessible to students everywhere.
