Inspiration
I'm a first-year engineering student, and before every test I end up spending more time making revision material than actually revising. Rewriting notes into flashcards felt like a waste of an evening, so I wanted something that does that boring part for me.
What it does
You paste your notes, pick one of three options (summary, flashcards or quiz) and hit Generate.
- Summary: a few quick bullet points you can read in two minutes
- Flashcards: question and answer pairs from your notes
- Quiz: multiple choice questions with an answer key at the end
How I built it
StudyPilot is written in Python, with Streamlit for the web page. When you click Generate, the app sends your notes to Amazon Nova through Amazon Bedrock, along with a different prompt for each option, and then shows whatever comes back. I kept it small on purpose because I'm doing this solo and had very little time.
Challenges I ran into
The first one was just getting Bedrock set up. Turning on model access and finding the right model ID for my region took a while. After that, I had to keep rewording my prompts until the flashcards and quiz came back in a clean format instead of random paragraphs.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I'm new to all of this and built something that works, by myself, in a short time. It's also something I'd actually use before my own exams.
What I learned
How to call an AI model from Python code, how much the wording of a prompt changes the output, and how to get a small app from an idea to something I can show people.
What's next for StudyPilot
Uploading PDFs instead of pasting text, saving flashcard decks, and reminders to revisit the cards I got wrong.
