Inspiration
My inspiration was "Devpost", believe it or not. I had always been fascinated by how efficient it had turned around the game of finding hackathons worldwide. With its tagline, "The Home of Hackathons", I thought of a problem that I personally encounter, an inefficiency if you may, on lacking the source of finding webinars.
With the onset of the pandemic, webinars became very relevant. Webinars are being conducted here and there. However, there is no single platform that caters to the consolidation of this, making it difficult for people to locate them. As we know, especially during this time of the pandemic, webinars had become a tool for learning. So, I deemed it appropriate with the theme of QODE Internet Fest's Hackathon: enhancing learning.
So I figure, why not create a "Devpost" for Webinars, those wherein we can find webinars to join, and also webinars to host. Hence, I created "WebiNow."
Behind the Name
"WebiNow" is a wordplay/combination of "Webinar" and "Now" because through this, you'll be able to find or host webinars now.
What it does
It is a platform that allows you to find webinars that are soon to happen so that you'll be able to have the opportunity to learn through participating in them. You can view these webinars through categories so that you'll be able to find what you are looking for. Furthermore, it is also indicated whether the webinar is free for the public or not. Want to conduct your own webinar? No problem! The webinar is here to help you manage and host your own webinar. You may add your webinar to our database so that others will be able to see your own webinar and possibly join them. Just add a request via this website, and the WebiNow will process them!
How I built it
I built it using my knowledge of HTML, CSS, Javascript, and Boostrap. I also attribute Start Bootstrap with the work as I had utilized their present services on providing readily available, under MIT License, website examples. I drastically modified these in order to fit the functions I would like WebiNow to have.
I spent more than 8 hours of coding and assemblage to perform the functionality. I used Notepad++ as my text editor to create codes and assemble them.
Furthermore, for presentation purposes, I had used MS Powerpoint to create the Logo for the website, and OBS to create my video demonstration. For the image assets of the project, I had primarily used Pexels and Pixabay to get no-attribution-required images.
For hosting, I had opted to use Github Pages and Surge.sh. For Surge.Sh, I had to deploy the website through the Command Prompt.
Challenges I ran into
Perhaps the main challenge I ran into is starting late with the work. I started on December 27 due to some other prior commitments/family responsibilities. However, I believe, I had pulled everything and created a with-potential output.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
The accomplishment that I'm proud of is working on this on my own. It is the first hackathon that I participated in solo, and it was daunting for at first, but I found the bliss that working alone gives.
However, what I am most proud of is the fulfillment that I felt after accomplishing the project because I felt that I enhance the quality of learning.
What I learned
If one wants to work faster, work alone.
What's next for WebiNow
In the first quarter of 2021, my class would be conducting a video-based speech presentation. I plan to include the speeches that we will be making (~80 speeches) to create a webinar selection. Furthermore, I also intend to expand the Webinar Selection.
