Sometimes the hardest part of studying isn't the whole subject—it's one step that doesn't make sense. Asking someone for help can be difficult when you can't explain exactly where you got stuck. That was the situation I wanted StudyPair to address.
A student creates a request, explains what they've tried, and identifies the point where they need help. A peer can then respond with progressive hints instead of immediately giving the complete solution. The student can say whether a hint helped and mark the request resolved when they're ready.
While building it, I had to think about the difference between giving someone an answer and helping them reach it. The hint ladder is the main idea: each step should give a little more guidance without making the earlier steps pointless.
I made the prototype with HTML and demo JS database. The learner and helper views demonstrate the workflow in one browser rather than connecting real students. I used AI coding assistant Antigravity during development.
My next step would be to put it in front of actual students and see whether the request format and hints genuinely make it easier to help one another.
