Inspiration
In traditional learning, students often struggle in silence—searching for answers online without guidance or emotional support. We wanted to reimagine this process. With up to 70% of science students facing conceptual difficulties, and research showing that active learning can boost test scores by 54%, I asked: What if students had a study buddy who not only helped them learn actively but also cared about their mental well-being? That’s how Studyofy was born.
What it does
Studyofy is an AI powered educational chatbot that transforms how students handle academic doubts. Unlike a typical search engine, Studyofy:
Assesses prior knowledge before giving hints
Provides step-by-step guidance and checks in after each step
Monitors stress levels and offers stress relief resources
Suggests similar practice problems for reinforcement
Has a built-in comfort zone with games, daily motivation, and mental health tools to help students reset when overwhelmed
How we built it
HTML, CSS, and JavaScript to build an interactive and responsive frontend
Gemini API to power the chatbot and generate personalized hints, stress responses, and practice problems
Challenges we ran into
Balancing help with not giving away answers too quickly
Integrating the API with Javascript
Accomplishments that we're proud of
Made an AI bot that feels like a real study buddy, not a rigid tool
Created a multi-functional support system that addresses both academic and emotional needs
What we learned
Using Gemini API
Designing for education means thinking about UX, pedagogy, and emotion all at once
What's next for Studyofy
Add voice-based interaction for accessibility and comfort
Partner with schools and learning platforms to deploy Studyofy at scale
