Inspiration

As students, we often have to manage notes, assignments, timetables, and other study resources across different platforms. Keeping everything organised can be challenging, especially when deadlines start piling up. This inspired me to create StudyNest, a simple platform that brings essential student productivity tools together in one place.

What it does

StudyNest is a student productivity web application designed to make academic life easier to manage. It provides a central dashboard where students can organise their timetable, track assignments and deadlines, manage study notes, and access useful study tools. My goal is to help students spend less time organising their work and more time learning.

How we built it

StudyNest is being developed as a responsive web application using React, JavaScript, Vite, and CSS. Browser localStorage is used to save user-created information, allowing notes, tasks, and timetable entries to remain available after refreshing the page on the same browser. AI tools assisted with development, debugging, and improving the user interface.

Challenges we ran into

One of our main challenges was deciding which features to prioritise within a limited hackathon timeframe. Since StudyNest combines several student tools, we needed to focus on making the essential features useful and connected rather than adding too many incomplete features. Another challenge was ensuring that the application remained easy to navigate while supporting different screen sizes.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of turning a common student problem into a practical web application concept. StudyNest brings several everyday academic activities into one workspace, with a focus on simplicity, accessibility, and ease of use. We are also proud of using AI-assisted development to help us build and improve the prototype as a solo developer.

What we learned

Through this project, we gained experience in frontend development, user interface design, data persistence, and feature prioritisation. We also learned that building a useful application is not just about having many features, but about making sure those features work reliably and solve a real problem.

What's next for StudyNest

In the future, we hope to introduce student accounts, cloud synchronisation across devices, more file conversion tools, and improved study planning features. We would also like to explore personalised study recommendations and collaborative features that allow students to support one another. Our long-term goal is to make StudyNest a more complete and accessible companion for students.
