Inspiration

As a student, I realized that many students struggle with planning their studies, staying consistent, and clearing doubts instantly. When I discussed with my friends, I found that almost everyone faced the same issues — especially when learning from YouTube tutorials without any structured approach. This inspired me to think: Why not create one smart platform that solves all these real problems? That's how the idea of StudyMate was born — a personalized AI-powered study planner that supports syllabus learning and YouTube learning together.

What it does

StudyMate is an AI-powered mobile app (currently in prototype stage) that helps students study smarter and stay consistent. It allows users to upload a syllabus (PDF) or a YouTube playlist, then automatically generates a personalized, day-wise study plan. It includes tools like a focus timer, AI chatbot for doubt-solving, peer study, AI-generated video explanations, and daily quizzes. For YouTube learners, a floating extension provides real-time learning support while watching videos.

How we built it

We designed the entire user flow and interface using Figma, focusing on simplicity, clarity, and a real user’s perspective. The prototype demonstrates both learning paths — syllabus-based and YouTube-based. We designed key screens like login, home, upload, daily study view, quiz, YouTube floating tools, and more. While the app is still in development, we planned to build it using Flutter for cross-platform support and Firebase for backend services. AI integration will use models like GPT-4, T5, and D-ID APIs.

Challenges we ran into

Designing a seamless user experience that supports both PDF and video-based learning

Choosing the right AI tools and APIs for summarization, chatbot support, and video generation

Managing complexity while maintaining a clean and simple interface

Learning technical tools (Flutter, Firebase, AI APIs) from scratch

Accomplishments that we're proud of

Created a fully functional and interactive design prototype that clearly communicates the vision

Designed a unique workflow that supports YouTube learning with real-time tools

Identified real-world learning problems and proposed a solution with practical impact

Made a strong plan for future development using executable technologies

What we learned

How to think from a user’s perspective to design helpful, intuitive features

Basics of Flutter, Firebase, YouTube APIs, and how AI models like GPT and T5 can be used in EdTech

How to structure a project idea clearly from problem to prototype

The value of planning, consistency, and smart automation in education

What's next for StudyMate

Start development using Flutter + Firebase to turn the prototype into a working app

Integrate GPT-4 and YouTube APIs for chatbot and playlist breakdown features

Add leaderboard, streak tracking, and gamification for better user engagement

Launch a beta version for student feedback and improvements

Scale it to support multiple languages and integrate with institutions for large-scale adoption
