Inspiration
Students often struggle with deciding what to study, finding suitable practice questions, and understanding difficult concepts. We wanted to create a simple AI study companion that could provide personalized help instead of giving only generic answers.
What it does
StudyMate AI is a personalized AI study assistant that helps students plan their learning, generate practice questions, get hints and step-by-step explanations, and track their study progress. Students can interact with the assistant conversationally and ask for help based on their current study needs.
How we built it
We built StudyMate AI using React and Vite for the frontend and Python with Flask for the backend. Google Gemini provides the AI capabilities, while SQLite is used to store study and progress data. The application was developed and tested locally using VS Code.
Challenges we ran into
One of our main challenges was connecting the AI functionality with the application while keeping the experience simple and reliable. We also worked on handling user interactions, maintaining study context, and making sure the different study features worked smoothly together.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We are proud of building a working AI study companion that combines conversational AI, study planning, question generation, step-by-step guidance, and progress tracking in one application. We also created a simple and student-friendly interface that makes these features easy to use.
What we learned
We learned how to integrate an AI model into a full-stack web application, connect a React frontend with a Flask backend, work with an API, manage application data using SQLite, and design an interactive AI-based learning experience.
What's next for StudyMate
We plan to improve StudyMate with more personalized recommendations, better progress analytics, voice-based interaction, richer study resources, and additional AI-powered learning features.
