Inspiration

Lucas, from our team, always has trouble staying on track while studying. He always ends up drifting off task. But whenever he's in a group, he feels pressured to lock in, and always stays on task. Leo, on the other hand, wants to find a quiet spot to study with his close friend, but he cannot seem to find an appropriate place.

What it does

Our project finds the most optimal studying locations based on several factors, including distance, internet availability, crowdsourced review analysis, and other features. It also allows users to match with other users studying similar topics to enhance retention. At each location, it lists students and what they are studying.

How we built it

We used CSS, JavaScript, and HTML as our main languages. We used the Bootstrap library for the user interface. Additionally, we used the Google Maps API to find locations. We used Firebase and Firestore for our login system and our database.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We are proud of the application's ability to scan any given area for study spots, and we are also proud of its ability to analyze Google Reviews for each individual 'spot'.

What we learned

We learned that we should prepare more for future hackathons, by learning relevant frameworks such as React and Node.js beforehand.

What's next for StudyLocal

After this hackathon, we will hopefully finish the project as a learning experience.
