Inspiration
Studying is a crucial part of a student’s daily life. However, a big issue arises when trying to organize study sessions for your classes. The University of Alberta campus is big, and sometimes it can feel like navigating a sea when trying to find people to form a study group with. What if there was a platform that was able to connect students and make this organization easier?
What it does
StudyLink is a real-time study session marketplace designed for university students. It connects students looking to study together based on course, location, and availability
How we built it
Frontend:
- Framework: React
- Language: TypeScript
- Styling: Tailwind CSS
- Build Tool: Vite
- Design: Figma
Backend:
- Framework: FastAPI
- Language: Python
- Database: SQLite
Challenges we ran into
The most challenging part of this project was working out bugs and errors on the backend, mainly regarding the database and SQL integration.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
- A simple and intuitive interface that's easy to navigate
- Real time session discovery — browse active study sessions near you
What we learned
Full stack stack development process — frontend development using popular tools and libraries; backend development using popular frameworks as well as database incorporation
What's next for StudyLink
We plan to fully develop this tool into a online site accessible by all students, as it currently only runs locally. We hope to reach roughly 10% of the student population as a part of our roll out plan.
