Inspiration
As a student preparing for competitive exams, I noticed that most test analysis tools focus only on scores and accuracy. However, a score alone doesn't explain why mistakes happen.
Many students lose marks due to recurring habits like calculation errors, rushing through questions, poor time management, or weak understanding of concepts. I wanted to create a tool that looks beyond scores and helps students understand the reasons behind their mistakes.
This idea led to StudyLens, an AI-powered analytics platform that turns exam mistakes into useful insights.
What it does
StudyLens analyzes a student's test performance and presents insights through an interactive dashboard.
Key Features
- Subject-wise performance analysis
- Mistake distribution visualization
- Topic mastery tracking
- Performance trend monitoring
- Behavioral insights generation
- Personalized improvement recommendations
- Recoverable score estimation based on recurring errors
Instead of simply showing a score, StudyLens helps students see where they lose marks and how they can improve.
How I built it
Frontend
- React
- Recharts for data visualization
- Responsive dashboard UI
- Dark mode support
Backend
- FastAPI
- REST API architecture
- Analytics engine for performance data processing
The frontend connects with the backend through API calls and visualizes the returned analytics using charts, metrics, and AI-powered insights.
Challenges I ran into
One of the biggest challenges was designing a dashboard that conveyed useful information without overwhelming the user.
During development, I faced several technical challenges, including:
- React rendering and component state issues
- Frontend-backend integration problems
- Dark mode styling conflicts
- Chart responsiveness and layout management
- Data handling and visualization design
Balancing usability, performance, and visual appeal within a hackathon timeline was also a significant challenge.
Accomplishments that I'm proud of
I take pride in building a complete working prototype within a limited timeframe.
Some of my accomplishments include:
- Creating a fully functional analytics dashboard
- Developing multiple interactive data visualizations
- Building a scalable frontend-backend architecture
- Designing an easy-to-use and modern interface
- Successfully implementing dark mode and responsive design
Most importantly, I turned a real-world student problem into a working product concept.
What I learned
Through this project, I gained experience with:
- React state management
- FastAPI backend development
- API integration
- Data visualization techniques
- UI/UX design principles
- Debugging and problem-solving under pressure
I also learned how important it is to focus on the user when building educational technology solutions.
What's next for StudyLens
Future development plans include:
- Real OMR and PDF answer sheet uploads
- OCR-based answer sheet analysis
- AI-driven mistake classification
- Personalized study plans
- Time-management analytics
- Multi-test performance tracking
- Integration with competitive examination platforms
My vision is to create a smart learning companion that helps students understand not just what they answered incorrectly, but why they got it wrong and how to improve.
