Inspiration
Most students juggle homework, tests, projects, and deadlines from different classes all at once. When several things are due around the same time, it's hard to figure out what to tackle first. We wanted a simple tool that turns that pile of work into something you can actually manage.
What it does
StudyFlow is a place to keep all your schoolwork in one spot. You add homework, tests, and projects, set the deadlines and roughly how long each one will take, and it shows you what needs attention first. It prioritizes tasks based on how soon they're due, how much work they involve, and how hard they are. It can also put together a realistic study plan for the day, so you spend less time deciding what to do next and more time actually doing it.
How we built it
We built StudyFlow with plain HTML, CSS, and JavaScript. No framework, no server. Everything is saved on the device, so it opens fast on any phone or school computer. We started with one question: "What should I do next?" The dashboard answers it first. Priority comes from simple rules (deadline, length, difficulty, project or not), and you can tap a label to see why. "Plan my day" cuts the work into short blocks with breaks and never plans too much for one evening. The colors come from our butterfly logo.
Challenges we ran into
Coming up with a priority system that actually helped was tougher than expected. Just looking at the deadline isn't enough. You also have to factor in how long something will take, how difficult it is, and whether it's a bigger project. We also had to balance making the app flexible enough for different kinds of schoolwork while keeping it simple enough that students would actually open it every day.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're glad we took a problem almost every student deals with and turned it into something practical. The automatic prioritization and daily study plan are our favorite parts because they don't just list everything you have to do. They help you decide what to do right now. We also like that the design feels modern and approachable rather than like another stiff school management tool.
What we learned
You don't need a ton of features to solve a real problem. The most helpful ones are often the ones that remove the small, everyday sources of stress. We also realized how much UX matters for a productivity app. Students should understand what to do almost immediately, without having to figure out how the whole thing works first.
What's next for StudyFlow
We want to make StudyFlow smarter and more useful over time.
