Inspiration

Learners today switch between multiple tools for notes, quizzes, grammar checking, and translation, which makes studying fragmented and inefficient. We wanted to create a single AI-powered browser companion that supports learning directly while browsing — fast, contextual, and interactive. That idea became NoteNest.

What it does

NoteNest is an AI-powered Chrome extension that generates smart notes, creates assessments, provides an AI tutor with file support, and offers grammar correction and multilingual translation. It turns webpages and study materials into structured, interactive learning resources in real time.

How we built it

We built NoteNest using HTML, CSS, and JavaScript with Chrome Extension (Manifest V3) APIs. We integrated Gemini AI APIs for summarization, quiz generation, tutoring, and language processing, along with content scripts for live webpage interaction and a modern animated UI.

Challenges we ran into

We faced challenges in reliable webpage content extraction, popup–content script communication, drag-and-drop handling, AI response timing, and maintaining smooth UI animations without performance drops.

Accomplishments that we're proud of

We delivered a fully working multi-feature AI learning extension with smooth UI/UX, drag-and-drop tutoring, keyboard-triggered language tools, and real-time AI note and quiz generation — all inside the browser.

What we learned

We gained hands-on experience in AI API integration, Chrome extension architecture, prompt design, performance optimization, and accessibility-focused UI design.

What's next for NoteNest

Next, we plan to add offline AI support, flashcard generation, LMS integration, multi-device sync, and deeper on-device AI using built-in browser models. And if possible we will try to release an app for this extension where we can easily revise the content that are generated by extension in the mobile phone.
