Inspiration
My friend and I thought of this idea after we and half of our class failed our history exam last month. Impelled by our failure to do better next time, we knew we needed to change our study methods. Thus, we created StudyBuddy to make studying easy and accessible for both us and others.
What it does
Our website allows streamlined flashcard generation with a single prompt, which is saved on the cloud. This aims to enhance retention by using a scientifically backed study tool, flashcards, and integrating it with state-of-the-art AI models. In addition, it comes with an AI voice agent that orally teaches students based off of flashcard sets, which improves comprehension and accessibility.
How we built it
Our project's frontend consists of HTML and CSS, and the backend functionalities were created on the Flask python framework.
Challenges we ran into
Creating a satisfactory voice agent was a finicky process, but the model was eventually fine-tuned to work successfully.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
After using this tool ourselves to study for the next AP US History exam, amazingly, we both scored A's and passed with flying colors.
What we learned
The project taught us a lot about learning from the perspective of teachers, which was insightful to the development of our app as students.
What's next for StudyBuddy
We see a lot of potential within StudyBuddy and plan to implement note-based flashcard creation, study guide creation, and other AI-enhanced learning features.
