Inspiration
As high school students, we struggle through AP classes and SAT prep all the time, and cramming during the last few days before the exam turns out to be less than productive. We wanted to make a fun way to practice for AP/SAT exams and wanted to experiment with new frameworks!
What it does
StudyBuddy is a site that has a question set for each AP exam and the SAT (which you select at the start) and provides questions from that exam to you every day (although that functionality is not quite working). Additionally, there is a Duolingo-esque streak counter to make the site more fun!
How we built it
We used nextJS in VSCode, which was a new framework for all of our team members!
Challenges we ran into
We really struggled with the LiveShare feature (since it kicks out members seemingly at random!) and using a completely new framework in a language we were not familiar with (lots of bugs and mapping problems). Additionally, we were not able to include as much as we wanted to in our project :(, but we think that that's probably just the nature of hackathons.
Accomplishments that we're proud of
We're so proud of pushing through the struggles of using a new framework (and learning how to use it on the fly) to make this project. We had a lot of fun, met lots of new people, and made lasting connections despite being new to the hacking scene.
What we learned
We learned a lot about nextJS, hacking, debugging, and time management throughout the project. We loved the ups an downs, and are excited to do this again! We also learned how to use GitHub (something new to us).
What's next for StudyBuddy
We hope to include our initial plans for functionality (more questions that actually relate to the exam), include the SAT page, and make a more effective and streamlined streak counter (that doesn't reset)
